Ever since the first vintage of Opus One in 1979, the wine has been an instant legend. First, there was the pedigree: the project was a joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild, proprietor of Bordeaux First Growth Château Mouton Rothschild, and Robert Mondavi, the man who put California winemaking back on the map after World War II. The wine itself is a Bordeaux-style blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot added for balance. It represents the marriage of Old-World tradition and New World technology, and a visit to the Opus One winery in Oakville can be an unforgettable moment in the life of a wine lover.
Make that visit even more spectacular with an Opus One “Art of the Table” experience in Oakville hosted by none other than winemaker Michael Silacci. Born out of the founders’ desire to share their philosophy regarding the enjoyment of fine wine and exceptional food while surrounded by art and beauty, the Art of the Table experience brings this ideal world to life. Your party of six will have an immersive education in the art of food and wine pairing.
After visiting the iconic Grand Chai barrel cellar, you will be guided to the Partners’ Room. You’ll enjoy a beautifully prepared multi-course menu, accompanied by the current vintage and two older library selections of Opus One, served while overlooking the estate vineyards. Michael Silacci will host the event and guide you through the experience, after which he’ll sign a Magnum bottle of Opus One for the winning bidder.
